Pittsburgh, Pa – Associated Builders and Contractors (ABC) of Western Pennsylvania, on Thursday June 17th, announced the 2019-2020 Excellence in Construction Award winners at the association’s 47th/ 48th Annual Excellence in Construction Awards Banquet. The annual banquet honors the ABC members who have provided notable services to the association and those companies which deserve recognition for their dedication and hard work within the construction industry in western Pennsylvania.

ABC contractor members submit their outstanding projects in the Excellence in Construction competition. Categories include General Contractor (commercial, institutional, historical, renovation, etc.), Electrical Contractors (commercial, institutional, and industrial), Mechanical Contractors (commercial, institutional, and industrial) and Specialty Contractors (interior, exterior, site work, highway, etc.,).  A panel of architects then judge each project based on the following: project scope, narrative, safety, merit shop opportunities, references, entry appearance, photography, etc.

In addition to the Awards of Merit and Excellence, presented at this year’s award banquet were the Construction Industry Awards, which are awarded after the winning companies are nominated and then voted on by their fellow ABC members in their respective categories. Nominations are based on ABC promotion, workmanship, respect and safety.

Also presented were the Safety Training Evaluation Process (STEP) Awards. The STEP Program, established in 1989 by the ABC National Environment, Health & Safety Committee, serves as a valuable tool for ABC members to consistently build upon their safety training programs and gain recognition for their outstanding efforts.
